The Pseudo Samba…
You may remember I had included this picture a long time ago on the blog.

VW panel van
Like most vans imported to Portugal, it had arrived as a panel van, and we found it and brought it to the workshops as a solid but ratty base for a project. A client commisioned us to recreate a 21 Window Samba, and this one was chosen.
Fast forward a few months, and a lot of work has been undertaken: cutting in new window apertures, replicating the roof, adding strengthening panels as per the original sambas: not quick or easy work, but bodywork specialists Paulo and Carlos are working their magic – hopefully it will be ready for paint in a couple of weeks. As per usual, the photos tell it better than I can, and click on them to enlarge.
Starting to look like a 21 Window. Great work.
After a few problems last weekend with my 55 oval, (the carb had been playing up), Filipe stripped it down and rebuilt it, to a “like new” state, and I refitted it. Then, drove “Larry” owing to the registration, to work, and s/he drove perfectly, not missing a beat. Here she is outside the workshops. Yes, still some bodywork to do, but I’m just enjoying the Oval experience right now…
Also I brought “home” my 1958 Single Cab on Saturday, but you’ll have to wait a day or two for photos. Isn’t anticipation wonderful!
Take care, all at Vintage Vans.
